Dr. George Stefano, Director of the Neuroscience Research Institute, was
selected to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award honoring SUNY faculty
members who have extended the boundaries of human knowledge and
driven the economic development of the state of New York.
This award is to be presented at a dinner held at the University of Albany
on April 14, 2008. |

Dr. Stefano has also been nominated for an award from the 1st Medical
School
of Charles University in Prague, and an award as well as a Doctor honoris
causa
from the College of Health and Social Sciences at the St. Elisabeth
University in Bratislava. |

2007 |
|
Dr. George Stefano, Director of the Neuroscience Research Institute, was
again
elected to the Executive Committee of the
Research Foundation of SUNY,
as well as
Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.
He also serves as the Chair of the Committee on Research for the Research
Foundation of SUNY. |

Dr. Richard Kream and Kirk Mantione were recipients of a second Empire
Innovation Program award
that Dr. Stefano received for the NRI. The program funds new faculty hires
at New York's
public universities based on the amount of federal research grants they
receive. |

2006 |
|
On June 28, 2006, Drs. Stefano and Zhu received honorable professorships at Beijing
China-Japan Friendship hospital. Dr. Shuqiang Xu, president of the
hospital, presented their awards and appointment letters. |

Over 40 people, including Dr. Fan Bifa,
head of the National Center of
Pain
Management, attended the ceremony.
Dr. Stefano and Dr. Zhu will coordinate intellectual
property and research
collaboration with the
National Center of Pain Management in China. |

Dr. Ji Sheng Han, Professor of Neuroscience at Peking University presented
Dr. Stefano with his title and a gift. |

the effects of playing a musical instrument on stress, as well as an

the effects of music on gene expression. This new research
complements Dr. Stefano's work on the effects of listening to music on

on January 20th and 21st, 2005, with some of the
most prominent investigators of endogenous morphine.

Dr. Stefano greets NY
Governor George Pataki at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Broad Hollow
Bioscience Park (BHBP), in Farmingdale, held on October 6, 2004. Dr.
Stefano is on the Board of the BHBP, a biotechnology research park
developed on the campus of
Farmingdale State University of New York, in conjunction with
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL). |

Dr. Stefano was interviewed for an
article on pleasure by Ian Sample in the UK's The Guardian
Unlimited. Dr. Stefano recently published a report in
Neuroendocrinology Letters with Dr. Tobias Esch on
the neurobiology of pleasure and its effects on health. |

Wired News
regarding endogenous morphine.

Dr. Stefano received a First
Patent award on November 4th, 2004, at the
State University Recognition Dinner Honoring Innovation, Creation, and
Discovery. His
research has lead to many innovations, but this night he was honored
for his patent regarding
methods for identifying estrogen surface receptor agonists.

Dr. Tobias Esch, a frequent co-author with Dr. Stefano, traveled to our
campus and gave a lecture on Limbic Function to our staff and students.
At the time, Dr. Esch was on the staff at the
